Some people still regret the old NA engines (and I totally understand their reasons), but it’s hard to complain about d.i., downsizing and turbocharging when you can get that kind of fuel consumption on 500+ hp cars if you don’t ask for all the power.
I mean, with the S65/S85 it was almost impossible to get 20 mpg even at low speed cruising, and they were nowhere near as high-performance as the new engines.

I would have never thought you could get close to 30mpg in a 500hp car. I came from DSMS and Evos, with 2 liter 4 cylinders that got 18-22 with manual transmissions. This is amazing.

I’m going to try this in my G82 xDrive as soon as I get the chance. I’ve taken long trips in it, but I always end up taking a trip to Mexico along the way.

One of the last bmw meetups I went to, a friend in an F80 followed me down to the meetup spot, and he told me that he had a full tank when we left.

We got to the meetup spot and then we headed down south, even further into some canyon driving. He pulled over to get gas, saying he was on the gas light, which I thought was crazy, because I was still slightly above half a tank. I’m thinking, there’s no way, that F80 was only getting 150 miles before the gas light came on.

I drove hard in the canyons and drove another 130 miles home, stopping in Mexico a few times, and still make it back to my neighborhood right after the fuel reserve light came on. The guy lived like 15 minutes past me, and he said when he got home, he was on the gas light again.

Like the car had a hole in the tank. I just thought having a DCT and less hearing that car just got trash mileage. I guess that’s not normal? :
