Impressions on idrive8 and comparison with idrive7 does idrive7 appear out-of-date, is it a big upgrade?
Intersting concern… I imagine if I look at iDrive 8 by itself, it feels evolutionary vs revolutionary . For the most aspect the program has a lot of UI tweaks, but when you click on down int the underlying functions (e.g. maps) they are fundamentally the exact as in iDrive 7. The House Display screen widgets are definitely fascinating and feel like a nod to the ‘new’ Porsche PCM, and I might say it took me about 20 minutes to grow to be comfortable with the program. In some cases it is superior than iDrive 7 in some others it is not e.g. the application menu feels like a throwback to windows 95.
I believe wherever process feels much more groundbreaking is when you pair it with the iX (e.g. the massive display screen) and it is really EV platform, because there are factors and capabilities that are just distinct than people out there on a ICE system.
That stated, I imagine BMW hasn’t completely explored the possibilities of an EV platform, and there are unquestionably some appendixes remaining around from the ICE era. For example limiting cabin climatisation to 15 minutes.
So the small respond to to your dilemma is that iDrive 8 in the iX feels revolutionary, since of the platform and mainly because one can see the alternatives. But if iDrive 8 had been an upgrade to the current X5, it would sense evolutionary. A good upgrade, but not a knock your socks off one particular.
